Happy 13th " Bird-Day" Jemini

So today my "baby" parrot has been in my life for 13 years. I always count the day I adopted my guys as their "bird-day." (Jazz was adopted on May 12, 1991, so I guess today is also his bird-day and a half...LOL). Anyway, while he still acts like a 3-5 year old human child, and always will, I cannot imagine my life without him or Jazz, and feel blessed they are generally very long lived (Jazz's life span is 40-45 years, and he is 17, and Jem's is 75-80 and is only 13; I definitely have to find someone to leave him with that I trust and know will love him as I have).

I recall fondly the day on November 12, 1995 I attended the Way Out West bird show in Phoenix, Arizona. It is such a neat show! I have only still been the one time. My parents plan to go this year on November 23, 2008, and I have a feeling they may get a bird to add to their family since three of their four little birds all passed this year. I hope they do. Dad is thinking he wants a clown parrot like my Goffins, which is what my Jazz is. :)

I had gone to the show having in mind maybe adding to my parrot family with some kind of a mccaw. I came around a corner, and there was this most beautiful peach-colored Moluccan cockatoo displaying (crest up, wings out, and showing off). He was SO sweet and his beauty truly took my breath away! At just three months old, he was not yet weaned onto parrot food. He was still being fed three times a day with warmed formula through a syringe. He was magestic--that is the word! He was there with another cockatoo (a lesser sulphur crested, I do believe), and they were preening each other in between acting all clownish and being beautiful!

After seeing him, I tried to keep an open mind, but really didn't see much of anything else. I wandered around the show, bought some toys and stuff at great prices for Jazz, and then before we left, I asked my dad if we could go say good-bye to the cockatoo I could not forget. We did, and I asked if he had been sold yet, thinking for sure he would be. The owner said no, and my dad looked at me and said, "We're going home with that bird, aren't we?" Well we did, and we had to come back later that same day to get a bigger cage for him (also obtained at a wonderful price). While Jem cost $1,350 (the same parrot in a pet stores would cost $2,000 or more), he is priceless to me.

He had my heart from day one. He didn't even know how to go up and down the cage, and also from thay first day he was in my life, he "jabbered" like he still does. He also loved to snuggle from the onset, and he often runs under my bedspread to burrow; I call him my "lump." Being with my feathered boys is truly the best part of my day, and when I am most content just "to be."

My parents had to have him live with them for about a month as they fed him the formula until he was weaned onto solid parrot foods. They then drove hum up to me in Utah, and he travels with me and Jazz a few times a year. While we have our moments (he sometimes has a bit of a temper and is very demanding and I always try to reason with both my guys, to no avail), I know he isn't for everybody, but he's perfect for me. I love to expose him to many people and children, and try and educate them all about the wonders of this amazing, yet still undomesticated in many ways, parrot!!! He has exceeded and them some, all my expectations. I love him and Jazz with all of my heart and soul, and feel blessed to be their "parront." They are..humanesque.

What GH Used to be (and sometimes is)

The person who put this montage together did a great job incorporating the GH of past with the Night Shift of today. HAD to put it in here. As I am still picking up the pieces and trying to get my life back together after my purse was stolen, sometimes it's nice to escape into the past. And remember--and also forget.

This helps!

Still Standing!!

Well, life has been uber busy for me of late, especially at work. It's our crazy busy time of the year when our next year's budget is due. I work for local County government, and a smaller office at that, but for these few weeks, life kinda stands still as we rush, rush, rush to get things done. Every year seems they add more for us to do in a shorter time frame. Thankfully, this year we have a Fiscal Manager and my role has been to assist her, rather than to do the whole thing. Which is good as I suck at numbers! LOL.

Anyway, life next week should be more back to normal for me, and if I think of anything good to blog about, I will. I enjoy reading all the blogs of my friends in the meantime.

Carry on and happy living to all!

...I do see no one is really checking this blog, so I may be deleting it in the near future. And it's okay. I KNOW I exist and am valued outside of blogdom. I truly do....and life is crazy busy anyway. We will see. It's all a-okay!

Music of the Night

I need say no more. This truly chills me...beautiful scenery, beautiful song, touching in every way to me (in a sick dysfunctional love story sorta way..LOL). I just love the lyrics and how she is drawn to him, even though she probably shouldn't be. I could do a whole thesis on the layers in this song, and movie. Perhaps another e-day. :)

Laura Comes Home

Finally, Genie Francis is reprising her role of Laura Spencer on GH. I am SO excited for this. I loved her all too brief return in 2006. There is genuine chemistry with Genie and Tony Geary, and I just get chills thinking of this. She is staying until October this time, so I hope the story does due justice.

Welcome home Laura Spencer (and Genie Francis)

Every family has it's issues....

...on the next Night Shift, three familes will be forced to deal with them." Or so says this latest Night Shift promo first airing August 12, 2008.

I am really loving this season of Night Shift. Not only have they brought back Robert Scorpio and have been honoring GH's storied past, but they are giving Robin and Patrick some real "couple" time.

And it is good to see Jagger and his son, young Stone. It is also interesting to see how they are dealing with Stone's autism. I truly hope the writers explore Autism Spectrum Disorder in the proper and educated manner with which it deserves. Same with Robin's HIV status. This show can be a bonafide tool in helping get the word out to the masses on both of these conditions. I look forward to the remaining nine episodes, and the birth of the newest Drake-io female baby! :)

The Winner Takes It All

Just because I like watching this! LOL

"Mamma Mia.... I go again. My, my, how can I resist ya?"

Yes I went and saw Mamma Mia, the movie, again! It's only my second time. And I have only seen the stage show twice. And I loved it even more the second time! I have a special fondness for movie musicals (2004's Phantom of the Opera is my all-time fave as I saw it a record, for me, 24 times on the big screen; and I saw Hairspray three times last year, and I think Rent a couple of times. Plus I have all the DVDs of those movies, and have seen POTO even more times than I can count in that format). But I digress....oh yeah, did I mention my previous personal record was 13 times at the theater for Rick Springfield's "Hard to Hold?" Hey, it's my taste and I dig it! LOL.

At first, the sound of Pierce Brosnan singing really hurt my ears. It just didn't seem to "fit" with his macho image as James Bond. When he went into "SOS", I did hear the audience kinda chuckle. The second time, I just sat back and enjoyed what I saw and heard before me. I know I really want to go to Greece sometime as that blue water sparkled like none I have ever seen! Breathtaking....and Meryl Streep, she did a great job as Donna Sheridan. She really did. When she belted out "The Winner Takes It All", it really went straight to my heart. Her sidekicks, Christina Baranski as Tania and Julie Walters as Rosie, were equally fun to watch. And the girl playing Sophie was really a talent to behold.

And to celebrate with my "girls", was a truly awesome experience! The ex-mother-in-law of my friend, Chris, went with us, and she was SO happy to be out of the house and just loved the experience. She commented to me how I must really love life with all I get out and experience. Maybe I rubbed off on her a little bit to go out there and LIVE some more. Who knows? I am sure we will do some more fun girls staycations in the near future. It was a delightful afternoon all around.

In this world of dark, sometimes you just need some light. Mamma Mia is that for me right now. I know I will get around to see "The Dark Knight" eventually, but right now I just wanna sing and dance and celebrate life with a little Abba. Too bad I didn't know how good they are when I was growing up.

It's all good. Now where is my soundtrack from the original live show again? I MUST find help me through my work day.... ABBA makes the work day go around..or a little lighter anyway. :)

Girl's Getaways

Later today, I am going on a "girl's getaway." Not that kind where one stays overnight (I love those from time to time as well), but going to dinner and a movie with dear friends with estrogen. One is my best friend from high school, Lorri, whom I have seriously known more of my life than not. WAY longer...we are going to take the Frontrunner commuter rail into either Salt Lake City or Ogden, out for a fine meal, and to see a movie (Mamma Mia, which I have wanted to see again).

Should be fun! So much for just "being" this weekend. Well, I can do that two weekends from now.'s nice to have great friends and family to spend time with! I am blesseed....
